We are pleased to announce that Raritan Headwaters (RHA), in partnership with Bernardsville Borough, will be offering citizens the opportunity to conveniently and privately test their drinking water for pollutants.

Please visit Bernards High School between 8:00am and 1:00pm on Saturday, April 28, 2018 during the Electronic Waste Day event to purchase a test kit. Kits will also be available at Borough Hall from 9:00am to 4:00pm April 30 through May 2.  Each kit costs $60 and contains 2 basic tests - one for coliform bacteria and one for nitrates.  The EPA recommends testing for these pollutants annually.  If you are concerned you may have other pollutants in your drinking water, RHA offers a full menu of tests at discounted prices including lead, arsenic, radon, pesticides and more.

Each test kit comes with easy-to-follow instructions and all required containers.  Residents will use the kits to collect water samples and then return the samples to Bernardsville Borough Hall between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Join us on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Bernards High School parking lot, 25 Olcott Ave., for a free recycling event, hosted by the Bernardsville Borough Green Team, featuring drive-thru service and off-loading of your items from your car, making recycling your old computers, printers and other electronic waste as easy as possible.  In addition, the Bernardsville Environmental Commission, in partnership with Raritan Headwaters, will offer well water testing kits for $60 to citizens. This event will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Free tree seedlings will also be distributed by the Shade Tree Committee to Bernardsville residents while they last.  The trees are hardy NJ natives grown by NJ State Forestry to replace trees lost by Super Storm Sandy.

All area residents, businesses and organizations may participate.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The Road Department will be coming around to chip/remove tree debris that fell along Borough roadways (not County and not State roads).

We will only be removing debris that fell into the Borough right of way (ROW) or is from Borough trees (those within ROW). On most Borough roads the ROW is a total of 50' wide or 25' from the road centerline. Below is a sheet that lists the exceptions.

We will not be chipping/removing tree debris that residents drag to the road edge from their yards. If we cannot determine which Borough tree the debris is from, we will not be picking it up.

Since the damage is so widespread, it will take us weeks to make it around to all of our roads.

The Compost Facility on Pill Hill Road will be open to receive tree debris on Sat. 3/17, 3/24 and every Saturday after April 7 between 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Thank you for your assistance and patience during this clean-up effort.
